Working Weekends

By Kim Everson, DVM

Why is it the most interesting cases of the week occur on Saturday and Sunday? It never fails that the most complicated internal medicine workups, surgical emergencies and just plain odd requests happen when the clinic is operating with fewer staff and under more time constraints. Don’t get me wrong, I actually kind of love the hectic hustle bustle of “urgent care” weekends. But at 7:30 am Saturday my heart starts pumping and I feel the anxiety creeping over me as I wonder what kind of emotional trauma my clients and I will face together in the coming hours. I guess when I stop feeling this involved in my cases it may be time to quit vetting altogether.
